Off To The Fair; A Wonderful Way To Spend A Day With Family
A fair is a gathering of people to display or trade produce or other goods, to parade or display animals and often to enjoy associated carnival or funfair entertainment. Activities at fairs vary widely. Some are important showcases for businessmen in agricultural, pastoral or horticultural districts because they present opportunities to display and demonstrate the latest machinery on the market.
Fairs are also known by many different names around the world, such as agricultural show,
carnival, fete or fête, county or state fair, festival, market and show, etc. Flea markets are sometimes incorporated
into a fair.
Off to the fair... The Orange County Fair... Every year we go several times and visit the fair, ride the rides, learn something new and have a great time. Come join us through some previous years pictures. We have been doing this since 1987 and digitally since 2003. Click the appropriate picture!
2003 - Year Of The Tomato
We went on opening day and then we took the Lind's/Chartier's on July 23rd and then we took the Porter's on July 25. Sue was still in a wheelchair. Banners and giant tomatoes placed throughout the park inform visitors that 2003 is "The Year Of The Tomato". A large eye-catching exhibit inside the main entrance captures the theme with a huge sand sculpture bearing the images of rock and roll superstars both past and present.
2004 - Jammin' at the Fair
The theme "Jammin' at the Fair'' salutes that glorious globe, the grape (purple and otherwise), in
its naturally occurring. we, of course, went opening day and then several times afterwards. We took the Porter's
and the Lind's. Dave joined us tis year.
2005 - It's Calling You Out To Play
This year the family pretty much stopped going so we are by ourselves but we found out that can be a load of fun!!!
2006 - Flower Power
Flower Power was the theme this year and we went several times, once with the Porter's.
2007 - Cowabunga
We always go opening day even though the crowds are getting bigger and bigger. This year, 21,000 people went through the turnstiles in the first one hour of operation (entrance was free from noon until 1:00PM). On opening day we met Margie and Mike (It's Mike's birthday also!)
After opening day, we go several times with family and friends. We visited Colleen and her family first and plan a visit with Dave McTevia and Kat Robinson during the week!
Cowabunga is a slang word in 1960s surfer culture, used as an expression of exhilaration when riding the waves. The word evolved from "kawabonga'" a word used by the character Chief Thunderthud on the United States children's television program Howdy Doody in the 1950s.
2008 - Who Cut The cheese?
"Who cut the cheese?" was the theme this year... Well, not really! The 2008 OC Fair theme of “Say Cheese!” takes center stage in the Flash & Focus Gallery and the OC Cheese-A-Fair.
Located at the north end of the Main Mall, Flash & Focus features a camera obsura, the 2008 Animation Celebration, "Things That Make My Face Say Cheese" exhibit, along with contests, competitions, and exhibitions.
We went opening day, with Jeanette and Connor (the long haired person), with the Porter's and a fourth time with Dave <cTevia
2009 - Think Big
We started the day with a small doctor's appointment and then headed for Ambrosia for a great lunch! This year we went six times. Michele and Theo were a load of fun! The theme was Think Big.... The Super Fair.
