Did You Know? - Chuckwagon food typically included easy-to-preserve items like beans and salted meats, coffee, and sourdough biscuits. Food would also be gathered en route. On cattle drives, it was common for the "cookie" who ran the wagon to be second in authority only to the "trailboss". The cookie would often act as cook, barber, dentist, and banker.

The term "chuck wagon" comes from "chuck", a slang term for food, and not from the nickname for "Charles".

Romance is alive in the Ol' West!

Did You Know? - Lip coloring started to gain some popularity in 16th century England. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I bright red lips and a stark white face became fashionable. At that time, lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants. Only upper class women and male actors wore makeup.

In 1770 a British law was proposed to the Parliament that a marriage should be annulled if the woman wore cosmetics before her wedding day.

Did You Know? - The tall white Ten gallon hats traditionally worn by movie cowboys were of little use for the historical gunslinger as they made him an easy target, hence the preference of lawmen like Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson for low-crowned black hats.

  • The easiest way to eat crow is while it's still warm.
The colder it gets, the harder it is to swaller.
  • If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.
  • If it don't seem like it's worth the effort, it probably ain't.
  • It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.

  • Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.
  • If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.
  • Don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think.

Quotation To Remember:

  • Always drink upstream from the herd.
  • Generally, you ain't learnin' nothing when your mouth's a-jawin'.
  • Tellin' a man to git lost and makin' himdo it are two entirely different propositions.
  • If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there with ya.
