Desert is disappearing!

We had 80 folks tonight!
Sunday evening at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge Starlighter's Dance, Mary arrived wearing rhinestone boots and a look that said she had watched every line dancing tutorial twice. Bill arrived wearing borrowed cowboy boots and a look that said the boots were already winning.
"Just do what I do," Mary said.
"That's what I'm afraid of," Bill replied.
The music started, and the dancers slid right like a well-oiled machine. Bill slid left like a shopping cart with one bad wheel. He bumped Paul, clipped a chair, and somehow ended up facing the dessert table.
"Grapevine!" called the instructor.
Bill panicked. "Red or white?"
Mary yanked him back into line just as everyone kicked. Bill kicked too, launching one boot neatly under the first table. The crowd gasped. The boot knocked over a plastic flamingo centerpiece and landed in Vicky's lap.
"Nice toss," she said. "Is this part of the routine?" "It is now," Bill said, hopping bravely.
During the next turn, Mary spun gracefully. Bill spun like a confused ceiling fan, grabbed Mary's hand for balance, and accidentally sent them both twirling into the middle of the floor.
The band loved it and played louder. The dancers clapped in rhythm. Bill assumed applause meant success and bowed, still wearing one boot. At the final stomp, Mary landed perfectly. Bill landed on a meatball from the snack tray and slid three feet, finishing with jazz hands.
The room erupted.
Mary whispered, "You were terrible."
Bill grinned. "Yes, but memorably terrible."
