The anthurium is quite amazing

Did You Know? Though it looks like a waxy bloom, it is actually a spathe, or shield-like leaf. Its function is to protect the spadix, which contains several tiny flowers when in bloom. The spathe can come in many colors, such as pink, orange and white.

Be aware that as beautiful as anthurium are, they are toxic if consumed. The plant has toxic properties that can irritate the mouth, throat and intestinal tract if eaten, so it should be kept out of reach of pets and children. It can also cause an allergic reaction if the sap comes in contact with the skin.

Mother Nature had a field day with these!

Did You Know? Heliconia tortuosa is an herbaceous tropical perennial commonly found in secondary succession in montane forests in Central America and southern Mexico (Chiapas and Tabasco). It is moderately shade tolerant. It has also been widely cultivated as a garden plant for its showy, usually twisted (hence the name tortuosa) inflorescences.

I had to smell it!
