Frank Goss

He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.

Frank Goss, Sue's Dad

Frank was born in New York in 1928. The 1920s is sometimes referred to as the "Jazz Age" or the "Roaring Twenties", usually when speaking about the United States. In Canada the decade is usually referred to as the "Roaring Twenties", much like in the United States. In Europe the decade is sometimes referred to as the "Golden Twenties".

The twenties marked the first time in America that the population in the cities surpassed the population of rural areas. This was due to rapid urbanization starting in the 1920s.

Monsignor Peter B. O'Connor, first pastor of Queen of Peace Church, invited the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill to staff the newly formed Queen of Peace High School in September of 1930.

Frank Goss The sisters brought the spirit and spirituality of their congregation to their ministry of education at QPHS by living out their mission: "We live and work so that all people may be united with God and with one another."

For 30 years the Sisters of St. Joseph, the parish priests, and a few lay people formed the faculty and staff of QPHS.  In 1946 he won the high jump contest and got a statue which we still have.

He Lived in East Rutherford, New Jersey

Frank Goss East Rutherford is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 8,716. It is a suburb of New York City.

By an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 17, 1889, a portion of the old Union Township was incorporated under the name of Boiling Springs Township. The new township took its name from a spring in the community. On March 28, 1894, the Borough of East Rutherford was created, based on the results of a referendum held the previous day, and Boiling Springs Township was dissolved. While there was no change in its borders, the name and form of government were changed.

He married his high school sweetheart, Rita, in 1950.

Served In The Merchant Marines

Frank Goss

The United States Merchant Marine refers to the fleet of US civilian-owned merchant ships—operated by either the government or the private sector, that are engaged in commerce or transportation of goods and services in and out of the navigable waters of the United States.

The Merchant Marine is responsible for transporting cargo and passengers during peace time. In time of war, the Merchant Marine[1] is an auxiliary to the Navy, and can be called upon to deliver troops and supplies for the military.

The people of the Merchant Marine are called merchant mariners, and officers are commissioned into the United States Maritime Service.

The Merchant Marine is a civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Navy, but not a uniformed service, except in times of war when, in accordance with the Merchant Marine Act of 1936, mariners are considered military personnel. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law making veterans of merchant mariners who serve in war.

Served In The US Army In Germany & Korea

The Korean War was an escalation of border clashes between two rival Korean regimes, each of which was supported by external powers, with each trying to topple the other through political and conventional tactics. In a very narrow sense, some may refer to it as a civil war, though many other factors were at play. After failing to strengthen their cause in the free elections held in South Korea during May 1950 and the refusal of South Korea to hold new elections per North Korean demands, the communist North Korean Army assaulted the South on June 25, 1950. The conflict was then expanded by the United States and the Soviet Union's involvement as part of the larger Cold War. The main hostilities were during the period from June 25, 1950 until the armistice (ceasefire agreement) was signed on July 27, 1953.

Took The Family To The Jersey Shore Every Year During The Summer

The Jersey Shore is a term used in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States to refer to the Atlantic Ocean- facing coast of New Jersey, together with the adjacent resort and residential communities. Its popularity as a tourist destination is due in large part to the nearly continuous stretch of beaches along its length, classic themes (antique, quaint, and classic), and boardwalks filled with hundreds of rides.

Geographically, the term encompasses the New Jersey coast from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May in the south and excludes the estuaries of New York Bay and Delaware Bay. The Jersey Shore area includes Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties, along with the resort towns in Monmouth county and the small shoreline edge of Burlington county. Citizens of certain areas of the Shore are unique in New Jersey because some communities often have mixed affiliations between New York and Philadelphia. There are also areas that get both New York and Philadelphia tourists. While there is no defined border between North and South, the Manasquan River or Interstate 195 are often mentioned. However, since New York City and Philadelphia are just 90 miles apart, there is a lot of overlap between where each metropolitan area's residents go for beach tourism.
