Father's Day Weekend June 19/20/2010
It was a laid back weekend... at least for us! We got to see Robin and family and a great movie. We went dancing with friends. Michele and Jonathan called to wish Paul Happy Father's Day. Jeanette called Sunday afternoon.
It Started Out With A Bang On Saturday
Thanks to Robin we did celebrate Father's Day by going to lunch at Panda Palace and out to a show.
We have been going there for over twenty years
No lipstick... No picture!
Robin (and Bob and Nick) Are So Very Special!!!
I have to admit.... Something got into my eyes when I read the card and it took a few minutes to get it out becuase I knew the message was genuine!
Wow!
We Headed Off To See Shrek!
He didn't kow what he had!
After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws' kingdom, what's an ogre to do? Well, if you're Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks.
What has happened to this ogre's roar? Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all he's done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
We Went To Garden Grove For A Continuation Of The Pre-Father's Day
Please visit the festivities over on "Our Friends" site. Here are a couple of pictures to give you a idea of what happened!
Paul's recreation of Shrek, not too bad except for the color!
Good old Rock and Roll... New meaning to "Dancing cheek to cheek"!
Something about eight inches
What happens when you ask our group for three more wine-glasses
It's Sunday... Time To Relax
We headed for Church at the 10:30 service and then to Old Ranch for a leisurely lunch! The off to La Mirada for a play. We did get a great phone call from Jonathan and Michele wishing Paul a Happy Father's Day!
It was Fathers Day so I got the car washed at Old Ranch
A house Paul used to live in 25 years ago... Looks the same
The theater is amazing... It used to be a movie house 40 years ago
Did you know? - Playwright Donald Margulies has been quoted as calling his Pulitzer Prize-winning play Dinner With Friends, “a rueful comedy.” The story is not just a thoughtful study on divorce, but a turbulent meditation on the minefield of middle age. Gabe and Karen, a happily married couple, have been friends with married couple Tom and Beth for many years.
While having dinner at Gabe and Karen’s home one night, Beth tearfully reveals that she is getting a divorce from Tom, who has been unfaithful. The unfolding story is not the divorce, but the shockwaves it causes in its wake.
Over the course of the play, we witness the effects of Tom and Beth’s breakup on Gabe and Karen, who first feel compelled to choose sides, and then begin to question the strength of their own seemingly tranquil marriage.
The play exposes the same, universal insecurities that people face every time there are shattering changes in their lives. Margulies’ characters are real. They are normal. They are family, friends, and the people next door. They are people facing their fears. Contains Adult Content & Language.
