Christmas 2016 Old Ranch Santa Brunch

"Christmas is not a date. It is a state of mind." -- Mary Ellen Chase

Off To See Santa (12/11/2016) At Old Ranch Country Club

We arrived just at 11:00 and got to see the snow in its pristine condition, before the varmints tore it up! We had a delightful meal, visited with Amy and Joe and watched Alex and Charlie get all excited about Christmas.  They met Santa, got their faces/arms painted! Charlie had his arm painted with light bulbs and then proceeded to put his arm on his forehead... He looked funny all lit up!

Shall we eat or see Santa first?? It's rock-paper-scissors to the rescue

Did You Know? - Rock-paper-scissors is a zero-sum hand game usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand.

These shapes are "rock" (✊ a simple fist), "paper" (✋ a flat hand), and "scissors" (✌️ a fist with the index and middle fingers together forming a V). The game has only three possible outcomes other than a tie: a player who decides to play rock will beat another player who has chosen scissors ("rock crushes scissors") but will lose to one who has played paper ("paper covers rock"); a play of paper will lose to a play of scissors ("scissors cut paper").

If both players choose the same shape, the game is tied and is usually immediately replayed to break the tie. Other names for the game in the English-speaking world include roshambo and other orderings of the three items, sometimes with "rock" being called "stone".

The game is often used as a choosing method in a way similar to coin flipping, drawing straws, or throwing dice. Unlike truly random selection methods, however, rock–paper–scissors can be played with a degree of skill by recognizing and exploiting non-random behavior in opponents.

The first known mention of the game was in the book Wuzazu (zh) (traditional Chinese: 五雜組; simplified Chinese: 五杂组) by the Chinese Ming-dynasty writer Xie Zhaozhi (zh) (traditional Chinese: 謝肇淛; simplified Chinese: 谢肇淛; fl. ca. 1600), who wrote that the game dated back to the time of the Chinese Han dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).
