1930-1940's Music
Big Bands were large jazz orchestras popular especially in the 1930s and 1940s, during the Swing Era. They usually had sections of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass, guitar, and drums.
Big Band music was known for its strong rhythm, arranged harmonies, and danceable swing style. It was often played in ballrooms and on radio, becoming a major part of American popular music.
Famous Big Band leaders included Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey. Their bands helped make jazz widely popular and influenced later styles of music, including rhythm and blues, rock, and modern jazz.
