Hello 1960s!
The Elks are about helping others and the annual Scholarship dance does just that! Tonight the theme is 1960s. So many important events occurred during the 1960s: inventions, social movements, artistic achievements, political upheavals, sporting triumphs and heartbreaks, scientific breakthroughs, entertainment milestones, military interventions and far too many deaths — often associated with one or more of the aforementioned.
Sadly, the decade was also marked by a number of high-profile assassinations, and human tragedies played out both here at home and around the globe. Altogether, the 1960s are memorable as a time when America came to terms with its power and potential on the world stage — and when many aspects of daily life as we now know it began to take shape

Did You Know? - Flower power was a slogan used during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and nonviolence. It is rooted in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War.
The expression was coined by the American Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 as a means to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. Hippies embraced the symbolism by dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and distributing flowers to the public, becoming known as flower children.
