Disney's California Food & Wine Festival

“I eat merely to put food out of my mind.”

California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

Disney's California Food and Wine Festival was held in March 2007, April 11-May 5 in 2008 and from April 11 thru June 7th in 2009 at Disney's California Adventure park. Festival events included cooking schools, winemaker dinners, cooking demonstrations, wine, beer, and spirit seminars, and a Marketplace where appetizers and beer and wine are available. New this year, there are Festival events occurring daily at the Pacific Wharf and Golden Vine Winery areas , and on weekends the Festival expands into venues in the Bountiful Farm area as well.

While only in existence for a few years, Disney's California Food and Wine Festival has quickly become a guest favorite. The Disneyland Resort plays host to this festival that showcases the diverse tastes of the Golden State.

From Friday through Sunday there are celebrity chefs and noted sommeliers who conduct demonstrations and seminars as well as host special dinners. There are complimentary activities, food and wine samplings and Signature events. Most of the action takes place at Disney's California Adventure Park while some events are at the Grand Californian's award winning Napa Rose Restaurant.

The Golden Vine Winery serves as the centerpiece of the California Food and Wine Weekends. At the "Sparkling Bar" located on the upper terrace, you can try sparkling wines and champagne by the glass with tapas.

While at the Golden Vine Winery, you can view the schedule of events and make same-day reservations (when available.) The Festival Wine Shop is located here with exclusive Festival merchandise, specialty wine products and accessories for the gourmet.

It's 2007 And When One Is Retired, Exercise Is Essential! Look At Those Elbows!

Paul does his exercises to strengthen his elbows!
Someone really enjoys the tasting of the vines
making sure every type of wine is tasted!

Now that we are retired, we can enjoy these activities and indeed we did!!

The Festival Welcome Center was located in Sunshine Plaza where daily event schedules are available and guests may make same day reservations for Festival events, pending availability.  They were quite helpful!

Some of the events are "ticketed" - e.g. there is a charge and reservations are required in advance - such as the winemaker dinners and wine tasting classes, but most of the cooking demonstrations and seminars take place in the park and are included with park admission.  Select which one you want, stand in line and volia'... live and learn!

We Went To Many Of The Cooking Demonstrations

Sue and the little old winemaker
enjoyed their exchange of ideas!

These 30-minute presentations feature demonstrations by chefs from all over the Disneyland Resort, as well as visiting chefs representing some of California's favorite food festivals, such as the Gilroy Garlic Festival and the California Strawberry Festival.

Chefs demonstrated cooking techniques while preparing dishes associated with the session's theme, and at the end of the presentation guests received their own samples to taste.

Seating was limited but we had no real problem getting in and actually moved from demo to demo quite easily! Demonstration kitchens were located at the Pacific Wharf and Bountiful Farm venues giving the crowds plenty of room to move.

"Taste", The Culmination Of The Event

Sue enjoyed showing the new friends at the
table which dessert was her favorite!

The festival's grand finale is held inside Stage 17 within California Adventure and it features the talents of numerous chefs serving up samplings of creatively prepared and elegantly presented foods. Specially selected beer, wine, and spirits were  offered by a variety of vintners and brewers.

The evening featured  live entertainment and we received two wine glasses to mark the event.  The inside of the studio was nicely decorated and it held about 600+ people!  The event managers strolled the area talking to the guests which made it a personal kind of event!
