We are off to Laguna Beach for the day and visit the Sawdust Festival, Art Affaire, and the grounds of the Pageant Of The Masters. We do this every year as a start to Sue's birthday celebration (July 10th).
The Sawdust Art Festival is a unique fine art and creative craft show. The summer show takes place in July and August amidst a 3 acre, sawdust covered eucalyptus grove in Laguna Canyon. Over 180 local artists from varied disciplines come together each year to showcase and sell their work.
We go every year for a day in the sun and with the arts! This year Sue, Paul and Ed went!

Laguna Beach is a seaside resort and artistic community located in southern Orange County, California, approximately 24 miles (39 km) southeast of downtown Santa Ana. The population was 23,727 at the 2000 census. As with many coastal areas in Southern California, real estate in Laguna Beach is extremely expensive. The median home price has skyrocketed to $2,000,000.
Since the first painting was created here in 1878, the exquisite
natural beauty of Laguna Beach has been a magnet for artists. Artists
flourished in the small village, supporting themselves through sales to
tourists who flocked to the beach for vacation. By the early 1900s, the
village had gained a reputation as an art colony, and in 1918, with the
entire population numbering only 300 residents, the community
established the Laguna Art Association to promote and support the fine
arts.
You’ll find a variety of festivals throughout the year in Laguna Beach.
In summer, Laguna Beach is host to Festival of Arts/Pageant of the
Masters, a world-class art show and world-famous stage presentation
featuring re-creations of classical and contemporary artworks with live
models accompanied by a full orchestra and live narration.

The Pageant of the Masters is an annual festival held by the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach, California. The event is known for the "living pictures" wherein classical and contemporary works of art are recreated by real people posing in almost exact detail to the work of art they are portraying. The first festival occurred in 1932 and has since been held each summer.
In 1932, artist Lolita Perine had an idea for a living work of art. Convincing residents of Laguna Beach to dress in costume, she seated them behind an oversized frame, recreating well-known works of art. Between 1932 and 1940, the pageant was held in different locations. On July 30th,1941, as the result of a committee to find a permanent home, the pageant was held in what is now a community central park. In 2000, an attempt to move the Pageant of the Masters was met with widespread resistance, and the location was not altered.
We walk for several hours visiting the exhibits and sometimes shop. At lunch time we go to Trivoli II which s on the grounds of the Art Affair.
