Newport Harbor, Here We Come To Eat, Drink, And Be Merry

Quotation To Remember: If you're alone, I'll be your shadow.  If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder.  If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow.  If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile.  But anytime you need a friend, I'll just be me.  ~Author Unknown

Did someone say the magic words????

Newport Harbor Elks & Han's 66th birthday
It took two of them to get the bottle open.... We finally had to tell them it was a "screw top"

Did You Know? - Its use as an alternative wine closure is gaining increasing support as an alternative to cork for sealing wine bottles. A screw cap is a metal cap that screws onto threads on the neck of a bottle, generally with a metal skirt down the neck to resemble the traditional wine capsule ("foil"). A layer of plastic (often PVDC), cork, rubber, or other soft material is used as wad to make a seal with the mouth of the bottle.

This bottle had a screw-top and was CHILD RESISTENT.... No wonder!

We are brave... We gave it a try!

"What do you mean it is only the first part????"

Did You Know? - A Cuban Sandwich, sometimes called a cubano, is a Latin variation on a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. This undeniably delicious sandwich is grilled and made with ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and Cuban bread. The essential ingredient is the roasted pork.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Loaf of Cuban Bread (Substitutes: French or Italian Bread)
  • 1 pound cooked ham (sliced)
  • 1 pound roasted pork (sliced)
  • 1/2 pound Swiss cheese (sliced)
  • dill pickles (sliced)
  • Yellow mustard or Mayonnaise

Preparation:

1. Preheat a griddle or frying pan on medium heat.

2. Cut the loaf of bread into quarters and slice each quarter in half lengthwise for the sandwiches.

3. Spread the mustard or mayonnaise on the bread. Then make each sandwich by layering the pickles, roasted pork, ham, and cheese.

4. Lightly coat the cooking surface of the griddle or frying pan with cooking spray or butter. Place one sandwich onto the hot surface.

5. Put a clean, heavy skillet on top of the sandwich to flatten it. Press the bread down to about 1/3 of its original size.

6. Leave the skillet on top of the sandwich and grill for one or two minutes. Lift the heavy skillet, turn the sandwich over and repeat this step for the other side of the sandwich.

7. The cheese should be melted and the bread golden brown. Slice each sandwich in half diagonally and serve.

Looks like he had one too many Conga's today

Did You Know? - The conga line is a Cuban carnival march that was first developed in Cuba and became popular in the United States in the 1930s and 1950s. The dancers form a long, processing line. It has three shuffle steps on the beat, followed by a kick that is slightly ahead of the fourth beat. The conga, a term mistakenly believed to be derived from the African region of Congo, is both a lyrical and danceable genre, rooted in the music of carnival troupes or comparsas.

Hans gives Brian the "High Five"... But he has to count first

Did You Know? - The high five is a celebratory hand gesture that occurs when two people simultaneously raise one hand, about head high, and push, slide or slap the flat of their palm and hand against the palm and flat hand of their partner. The gesture is often preceded verbally by the phrase "Give me five" or "High five".

There are many origin stories of the high five, but the two best documented candidates are Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke of the Los Angeles Dodgers professional baseball team on Oct. 2, 1977, and Wiley Brown and Derek Smith of the Louisville Cardinals men's college basketball team during the 1978-1979 season.

In the United States, there is an initiative to celebrate the third Thursday of April as National High Five Day.
