December 24th At Disneyland; Our 45th Year!

The weather report is not great, predicting light rain but we go... Like the mailman, wind sheet snow! The Christmas Eve shall go through!

We are joined by Robin, Bob and Nick Duda plus Pete, Lisa and Justyn Chartier.  Carri Fox is joining us ths year also!  The Lind's stayed home this year and will be missed!

We are off to Catal for dinner at which time Michele and Franklin and Theo will join the dinner crowd.

The Weather Was NOT Going To Cooperate

Paul did an anti-rain dance. A rain dance is a ceremonial dance that is performed in order to invoke clear skies and to ensure the protection of the harvest and dry clothes while visiting Disneyland. Various interpretations of "anti-rain dances" can be found in many cultures, from Ancient Egypt to certain Native American tribes. They could still be found in the 20th century Balkans, in a ritual known as Paparuda (Romanian) or Perperuna (Slavic). It worked... we stayed dry all day!

We Headed For California Adventure First!

Time to soar over California... Justyn looks a little worried!

The attraction takes 87 guests at a time on a simulated hang glider tour of the Golden State, flying over San Francisco, Redwood Creek, Napa Valley, Monterey, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Palm Springs (actually shot in nearby La Quinta over the golf course at PGA West), Camarillo, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego, Malibu and Los Angeles. The ride ends with a flight over Disneyland at Christmas, with a Christmas parade traveling down Main Street, U.S.A., decorations on Sleeping Beauty Castle, and fireworks

Did You Know? - The Maliboomer is an attraction at the Paradise Pier section of Disney's California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. It is an S&S Power "Space Shot" attraction, which means that it launches guests from the bottom of the tower instead of slowly lifting them to the top and dropping them from there. The ride is pneumatically powered, with all three towers having independent ride systems. It also contains "Scream Shields", used to block the screams from reaching residents near the ride.

The concept of the Maliboomer comes from a space-themed version of the popular "high striker" attraction on many boardwalks and carnivals. The concept is that men test their strength by hitting a mallet and ringing the bell, impressing their dates and winning them large stuffed animal. The attraction's name also hints at this theme, since it alludes to the beach town of Malibu, California.

As part of the park's multi-year, $1.1 billion expansion, Disney officials confirm that the Maliboomer is scheduled for removal in 2009 due to low attendance and lack of theming. It is expected that a parachute attraction will take its place.

Tower Of Terror

Did You Know? - The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, more commonly known as Tower of Terror, is a simulated freefall thrill ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, at Disney's California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California, and at Walt Disney Studios Park, Disneyland Resort Paris.

It is based upon the television show The Twilight Zone. The version of the attraction located at Disney's Hollywood Studios opened in 1994, the version located at Disney's California Adventure opened in 2004 and the version in Walt Disney Studios in Paris officially opened on April 05, 2008 - even though it was unofficially open since December 22, 2007

Did You Know? - At 199 feet, it is the second tallest attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort, shorter only than Expedition Everest's 199.5 feet. The Tower of Terror is 199 feet high at Walt Disney World because of FAA regulations that require a fixed red light beacon to be added to the top of any 200-foot or taller building. Imagineers thought that the beacon would take away from the hotel's 1939 theme. At the Disneyland Resort, the 183-foot attraction is the tallest attraction at the resort, as well as the tallest building in Anaheim. In Disneyland Resort Paris it is the second tallest attraction.

Inside It's A Small World

During the holiday season (first week of November through first week of January) it's a small world is transformed into a holiday fantasy. The outside of the building, including all of the topiary animals, are decorated with white lights and the clock face wears a Santa hat. Inside the building it seems like everyone and everything is in the holiday spirit. There are signs proclaiming "Happy Holidays", "Merry Christmas", and "Happy New Year" in many different languages, holiday and fireworks displays, and everyone is dressed in their holiday best. The animals get into the spirit of the season, too -- there's a number of reindeer with red noses, and the kiwi birds have jingle bells on their beaks. Even the soundtrack has a holiday flavor -- for most of the ride it alternates verses of "it's a small world" with Jingle Bells. Be sure and listen as you pass by the mermaids, though, since they sing their own version: Jingle *Shells*. In the "White" room everyone joins together in a chorus of Deck the Halls.

Did You Know? - Storybook Land Canal Boats is an attraction located at the Disneyland and Disneyland Paris theme parks. Passengers embark on a leisurely-paced outdoor boat ride through a winding canal featuring settings from Disney animated films recreated in miniature. The Disneyland version was one of the original attractions when the park opened on July 17, 1955, although the miniature buildings and landscaping were not added until the following year.
